Why Are Some on the Right Apparently Incapable of Telling the Difference Between Starting a Prolonged War And Strategically Eliminating a Nuclear Threat?
We can bomb their nuclear program to smithereens now, or spend another forty-five years hoping the Mullahs don’t bomb us (again), but with something far more deadly than just explosives.
I must be losing my mind. On X, I keep seeing posts by some on the Right warning Donald Trump that he would lose their support permanently if he got involved in the war between Israel and Iran. For as long as Trump has been involved in national politics, he has consistently opposed America’s involvement in prolonged engagements, especially in the Middle East. That said, Trump also recognized the vital sacrifice made by Americans to defeat imperialist Germany followed by Nazi Germany in World War I and II. Trump seems to possess a pretty decent comprehension of when military power is required and when it should be reserved.
On Iran, he has consistently over his two terms bent over backwards to get Iran to abandon its pursuit of nuclear weapons. Again and again, Iran has turned down his overtures and continued its pursuit of nuclear weapons. Today, due to its strategic and tactical brilliance over the last week, Israel has decimated much of Iran’s war-fighting capabilities, leaving just its nuclear material buried under a mountain at Fordow left to take care. Israel has total control over Iranian airspace. As it happens, America is the only western power that possesses both the weapon (the 30,000-pound GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP)) and the means of delivering that weapon (B-2s) capable of destroying Fordow. Thus, the core question for Trump is: should the U.S. send in the B-2s loaded with the MOPs to once and for all destroy Iran’s nuclear program, thereby eliminating a global threat. A global threat, I might add, that has been verbalized many times by Iran’s leaders.
A threat that goes far beyond Iran’s dream of dropping a nuclear bomb on Israel to “wipe it off the map.” The world already faces a threat of a nuclear North Korea offloading some of its nuclear material for a terrorist group to make a dirty bomb that could be deployed anywhere in the West. For years, Iran has funded and supported proxy terrorist groups in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and other locations, so we know Iran’s intent to kill westerners isn’t an academic question. Imagine what destruction and death Iran could sow upon the world if it used terrorist proxy groups to deliver dirty bombs in Central London, New York City, or Tel Aviv.
Since 1979, American presidents have dealt with Iran and its terrorist proxies who have kidnapped, tortured, and murdered Americans and other westerners. Never has a U.S president been presented with the enormous opportunity to strike at the heart of Iran’s nuclear program in a manner that would make the world far safer than it is today. Why would Trump NOT use the B-2s to drop the MOPs on Fordow? It would be a colossal squandered opportunity of a presidency.
Keep in mind, Trump is no John Bolton-Liz Cheney nation building war monger; rather, in his four and half years as president, he has consistently showed great restraint when it comes to using American military power. As Noah Pollak noted on X:
This ‘endless war” shrieking is ridiculous. Trump bombed the Houthis for six weeks and then ended it. He fought ISIS for around two years, defeated them, and then ended it. Trump Killed Soleimani and did not engage further. He degraded Al-Shabaab in Somalia for three years and then ended it. Trump’s record of NOT “dragging us into another endless war” is impeccable.
Trump firmly and consistently rejects the idea of both nation building and regime change. If Iranians want new leadership, they should fight for it. Trump fundamentally gets this reality. The only thing on the table is whether or not to strike Fordow.
So, instead of hyperventilating about Trump starting another Iraq or Afghanistan endless war, all Americans should resolutely support Trump if he decides to send in the B-2s with the MOPs. Geopolitical history shows such opportunities are rare. We can bomb their nuclear program to smithereens now, or spend another forty-five years hoping the Mullahs don’t bomb us (again), but with something far more deadly than just explosives.
In other news, look closely at the picture below showing various scores for Ohio’s K-12 public schools. Something not adding up for you? Look more closely. In the 8th grade, only 32% of Ohio kids are proficient in math and reading. “Proficient” means "that a student has demonstrated an adequate understanding of the state standards for a particular subject and grade level.” So, less than one-third of Ohio’s K-12 8th graders adequately understand basic math and reading. Got that?
Now look at that last line in the picture above. Magically, four years later, 87% of Ohio’s K-12 kids are graduating from high school. That means, either enormous jumps in skills in just four years (which didn’t occur from 4th grade to 8th grade) or, more likely, Ohio’s K-12 public school system is simply pushing kids out the door knowing they lack the basic math and reading skills to navigate and succeed in our 21st century economy. The practice is known as “social promotion,” which simply means passing kids to ensure they stay with their age cohort regardless of whether they SHOULD advance or graduate. It is a shameful practice that should be outlawed and shows the moral and ethical rot within Ohio’s education system, largely due to the teachers’ unions and scores of teachers who should be ejected out of classrooms ASAP for engaging in it.
P.S. Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the last week. Enjoy!!!
Trump is the only President we've got to paraphrase LBJ. I trust him to handle this well
