We’ve Entered a Grave New World
In a zero sum world, America would take action if we perceived our enemy was weakened. Why should we expect our enemies not to act when the window of opportunity is wide open and weakly guarded?
I hope you and your family had a wonderful Independence Day celebrating our country’s founding. We gather round the table for fellowship, food, fun, and fireworks.
Over the last week, Americans finally have seen with their eyes and ears Joe Biden’s frail condition. It was that condition back on October 8, 2023, that caused Special Counsel Robert Hur to conclude in his report that, though Biden committed felonies in his improper handling of classified documents, his mental and physical condition rendered him incompetent to stand trial. The Left and media covered for Biden by dismissing Hur’s findings as partisan, but sober minds rightly raised the question: if Biden was too incompetent to stand trial, how was he competent to remain President of the United States?
Nine months later and post-debate debacle, Americans are wondering if Biden will drop out of the 2024 Presidential race before the Democrats have their national nominating convention. Those same Americans concurrently ask a newer version of the Hur question: if Biden is too incompetent to run for reelection, how is he competent to remain President? Democrats and their media hack allies dismiss this question, but it is THE right question to be asking.
Why? Simple. Under our Constitution, the President is the most powerful person in America, serving as the Commander-in-Chief of our military. If Biden is not mentally and physically competent 100% of the time and not just between 10:00AM and 4:00PM and even when awoken at 3:00AM (see Hillary Clinton’s “3AM Call” political ad from 2008 in which she implied that Barack Obama wasn’t ready for that call), then he puts America in danger by remaining president. Keep in mind, our enemies don’t run their operations by Eastern Standard Time; rather, they act most often when it is the middle of the night in America. As a result, you can bet the house that an international crisis will happen when the president is asleep. Will Biden be “with it” when staff wake him up so that he can exercise his C-in-C functions properly? If not, then who is making life and death decisions for the men and women in our military? Secretary of State Anthony “51 Intel Officers” Blinken? National Security Advisor Jake “October 6” Sullivan? Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Charles Brown, Jr. (who I know you’ve never heard of)?
This isn’t idle chatter. As Roger Kimball succinctly lays out in his recent The Spectator column, "The United States Cannot Afford a 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. President,” due to geography, our enemies are most active when we are most inactive:
Remember when Donald Trump vaporized Qasem Soleimani? He did so after he was awakened in the wee hours of the morning to be informed that our embassy in Baghdad was under attack. “Who did this?” he asked. “Soleimani,” he was informed. Within forty-eight hours he was a heap of sodden dust. Can you imagine trying to rouse Joe Biden at 3 a.m. to make such an imperative decision? The United States cannot afford a 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. president.
About those enemies (China, Iran, North Korea, Russia, and Venezuela), do you not think they were watching the debate last week and have zealously followed the news since then? If you were them, wouldn’t you think there is a window to act that will close on January 20, 2025, when Donald Trump once again becomes President? Is a Biden White House that is riddled with infighting and literal incompetency at the highest level prepared to act in the face of another crisis?
Let me remind you of what last happened when an American president was deemed to be the “weak horse.” To do that, I’d kindly ask you to take twenty minutes to read the first chapter (A New Kind of War) from my first book, Homeland Security and Federalism: Protecting America from Outside-the-Beltway, available at this link (for free). For those wondering, no, I’m not trying to peddle my books. All proceeds from my first three books are donated to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, so I don’t make any money from the sales (all my books are here for those interested). In the section, “The Gathering Storm,” I wrote:
For almost ten years before the September 11 attack, bin Laden repeatedly attacked and killed Americans. Critically, bin Laden had come to believe that while America appeared strong militarily, in reality, that military strength concealed a fundamental weakness. This belief was alluded to several times in the 1996 fatwa when bin Laden asked, ‘‘where was this false courage of yours when the explosion in Beirut took place on 1983 A.D. (1403 A.H.). You were turned into scattered bits and pieces at that time; mainly marines solders were killed.’’ This weakness is what led bin Laden to believe that America could be driven from the Middle East.
Fast forward twenty-three years and once again America is seen as a weak horse. Shorty after the debate, America’s bases in Europe were put on higher alert status due to intelligence indicating a likely attack. Here is a partial list of foreign policy losses under Biden:
Vladimir Putin’s Russia for the second time during a Democrat president’s term invaded Ukraine;
Russia is sabotaging critical western undersea infrastructure;
North Korea ends its forbearance on missile testing once Trump left office;
Iran, sensing desperation by the Biden Administration vis-a-vis renewing the dangerous Iran Nuclear Agreement, funds and orders its proxies to attack Americans and Israel;
Yemen, taken off the list of countries labeled as terrorist by Biden, begins hostilities against Saudi Arabia and other allies;
Iraqi elements attack U.S. military personnel;
Hezbollah again fires rockets into Israel;
Hamas invades Israel and kills, rapes, and kidnaps over 1,000 men, women, and children, including Americans; and
Iran, for the first time, fires rockets directly at Israel;
Venezuela pushes claims for energy fields in Guyana;
China exerts greater control over the South China Sea, including encirclement exercises;
China sends intelligence monitoring weather balloons over America; and
China builds an eavesdropping facility in Cuba.
Beyond aggressive moves by our enemies, due to the fecklessness of the Biden Administration, the European Union (EU) has used regulatory lawfare (regfare) to constantly attack U.S. companies to hurt those companies and help weaker EU competitors. For details about these attacks, check out this thread. Trump really does need to have a “come to Jesus” meeting with EU leaders. I saw in the news that EU leaders after the debate shared their concerns about Biden with the media regarding just how bad of shape he was in based on meetings with them. Funny how they kept their concerns quiet until AFTER it was obvious to everyone. Does anyone think for a moment EU leaders would have kept similar concerns about a Republican, especially Trump, quiet? Not a chance, which only shows the utter bias the Right in America must deal with when it comes to our European “allies.”
With Biden compromised by sundowning related to either dementia or Alzheimer’s, America has entered a grave new world in which our enemies will be emboldened to act over the next five months. In a zero sum world, there is little doubt that America would take action if we perceived our enemy was weakened. Why should we expect our enemies not to act when the window of opportunity is wide open and only occasionally guarded?
This reality is what we are left with:
