The Right Should Advocate for Helping Americans Out of Medical Crises In Contrast to Joe Biden Forgiving Student Loans
The Hospital Industrial Complex needs to be reined in, especially as Medicare and Medicaid pour so much money into the health care system.
I’m not suggesting that the Right should create a new entitlement program aimed at eliminating the medical debt of Americans; rather, I am suggesting, as a counterpoint and in contrast to Joe Biden’s unconstitutional federal student loan debt forgiveness benefiting those making $300,000 per year, the Right should push for greater medical fee transparency from health care providers and a call to help those Americans being overwhelmed by medical debt due to unforeseen and non-self-inflicted medical crises. As I said during my exploratory run for Ohio governor, a medical crisis shouldn’t become a financial crisis that sinks a hardworking family.
Specifically, Biden is helping upper class Americans who made stupid educational decisions (i.e., majoring in low-paying liberal arts degrees) funded by “free” federal student loans. I’ve previously detailed one case of a writer who went deeply in debt to acquire worthless degrees and whose debt got forgiven. Biden’s wealthy beneficiaries just happen to be the core “Bell Curve” voters (i.e., Americans with college degrees) he desperately needs to win the 2024 presidential election. He literally is uses taxpayer funds to buy votes, just as he is doing with the massive influx of illegal immigrants he hopes find a way to vote later this year. These people willingly chose to go to college, majored in something worthless, and took out loans to fund their Indigo Girls “Closer to Fine” experience. They are the least entitled to be bailed out by working class Americans who didn’t go to college and those of us who paid off our student loan debts.
In stark contrast, many Americans every year experience medical crises (i.e., ruptured appendix, cancer, strokes, etc.) that aren’t covered by insurance or costs more than insurance will pay. As a result, those Americans find themselves being bankrupted by medical bills. In many cases, the medical charges are grossly inflated (i.e., made up or absurd like $10.00 for a simple bandage) due to the massive power held by the Hospital Industrial Complex. As I’ve previously noted, The Ohio State University seems more focused on adding hospital beds than teaching students to the point there just might be more beds than students enrolled. Someone has to pay for that Taj Mahal new medical building on campus and all of the equipment in it. That “somebody” are Main Street Americans stuck with huge medical bills.
According to the Consumer Finance Protection Board,
15 million Americans still have medical bills on their credit reports despite changes by Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. The 15 million Americans disproportionately live in the South and low-income communities. Collectively, they have more than $49 billion in outstanding medical bills in collections.
…
The average medical balance on credit reports increased from $2,000 to over $3,100
Obviously, unlike Biden’s student loan forgiveness recipients, the Americans being crushed by medical bills are not HIS voters. Thus, he does nothing to help them climb out of the hole they are in, with many in that hole through no fault of their own. Biden has taken care of $167 billion in student loans for his core voters. One-third of that would have erased 100% of the medical debt of Americans.
Again, I’m not saying that SHOULD HAVE happened, but if the Biden Administration would have put the same energy and zeal into helping Americans with medical debt as it has to unconstitutionally wipe out federal student loan debt, many of the most deserving cases could have been dealt with. The Right should use this issue aggressively in the coming months to attack Biden and the Left for once again neglecting those who need help the most in favor of a favored voting constituent. An agenda squarely aimed at the Hospital Industrial Complex and its egregious billing practices of charging outrageous prices for every day items and services would be viewed favorably by every American who has received a medical bill.
This issue also would help the Right look more empathetic on health care issues, which has been a source of political weakness for over a decade. The Hospital Industrial Complex needs to be reined in, especially as Medicare and Medicaid pour so much money into the health care system. By raising this issue, the Right can create a powerful contrast with the Left over a fundamental issue of fairness on whose (upper class versus working class) and which type of debt (voluntary student loans versus unexpected medicial bills) Americans get help with.
