The Attempted Assassination of Donald Trump Was An Historic and Terrifying “Where were you?” Moment for the World
Let’s hope the Left turns away from the dangerous road it has been traveling on that has taken America into a deep, dark valley and opts to seek sunlight towards the mountain’s peak.
I was at dinner in Asheville, North Carolina, on a weekend get-a-way when my daughter in Edinburgh, Scotland, sent me an innocuous text “Is Trump okay?????” I was alarmed at first, but when a family-of-four (all adults) at the table next to us starting talking about Donald Trump and laughing, I assumed maybe he had tripped or something. I then looked at the news and learned to my horror that someone had attempted to assassinate him at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and saw the first images of a bloodied Trump. Thankfully, the laughing left-wing idiot family quickly left, as rest assured I would have shamed them to hell and back for their historically moronic and utterly immoral conduct.
Though it should be unnecessary for me to have to say this, the only appropriate reaction to the attempted assassination of Trump (and ANY official), the injuries to attendees, and the murder of retired firefighter Corey Comperatore as he protected his family is this:
The attempted assassination of Donald Trump on Saturday night was horrifying and wrong; it should never have happened; and the Left must dial down its unhinged and dangerous rhetoric about Trump and Republicans as it is getting people killed and injured.
Period. That is it. No qualifiers. No what aboutism. No both sidesism. A former American president and current likely candidate to become president again survived an attempted killing by a few centimeters—literally a slight turn of the head. This has not happened in forty-three years since Ronald Reagan was nearly killed by John Hinkley, Jr. The assassination attempt occurred at a time when our country is being torn apart and sits in a knife’s edge. Had Trump been killed, the likelihood of a civil war would have jumped dramatically.
This assassination attempt comes on the heels of an attempted assassination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and the near killing of Congressman Steve Scalise. Both attempts driven by the extreme rhetoric from the Left. The Left and the media LOVE to lecture America about “far-right violence,” but, other than the 1/6 protest that got out of hand, all of the violence we’ve seen in America since 2016 has come from the Left and its militants. From Joy Reid and Rachel Maddow making wild claims that Trump would round up blacks and gays and put them in concentration camps to magazines comparing Trump to Adolph Hitler and his gassing of eleven million innocents; from Joe Biden’s slurs about “MAGA Republicans,” white supremacist, and Trump being an existential threat to democracy that must be stopped to Chuck Schumer’s overt threats against the Supreme Court, the Left simply cannot escape the reality that someone believed its leaders when they said those things and took deadly action to “save” America from the threat of Trump and his supporters.
The fact that this assassination attempt is the third one in seven years should convince the Left to shut its God damn mouth once and for all….but it won’t. Their obsession with holding onto power by any means necessary will continue to drive them to say and do things beyond the pale, as the media will continue to cover for them. The only things that will stop the Left are (1) putting in place a trifecta Republican government in Washington, D.C., that takes aggressive action to fix all of the things Biden has broken and (2) defeating the Left politically again and again until it comes back within the guardrails of proper conduct required in our Republic.
And, if it wasn’t already clear, Trump needs to pick a vice presidential candidate who truly is ready to step into the presidency should, God forbid, something happen to him once elected. I believe that person is Senator Tim Scott, but there are other good choices in front of Trump. Hopefully, he chooses wisely.
What happened on Saturday night in Pennsylvania should serve as a stark wake-up call to all Americans. Had Trump not turned his head ever-so-slightly, the shot would have served as the start of something we’ve only faced once before in our history, costing over 700,000 lives. Thankfully, Trump did turn his head. Let’s hope the Left turns away from the dangerous road it has been traveling on that has taken America into a deep, dark valley and opts to seek sunlight towards the mountain’s peak.
