Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes Perfectly Embody the Left-Right Fracture
Swift, like so many entertainers on the Left, became a billionaire on the backs of Main Street Americans she looks down on, as she supports politicians who make their lives harder. Anti-hero, indeed.
EMERGENCY MESSAGE: Below you can read the column I wrote for today, but I couldn’t post it without acknowledging and briefly discussing the second assassination attempt on Donald Trump. America went forty-three years without a president or former president being shot at by an assassin. In two months, assassins have twice fired on Trump, both far closer than they ever should have gotten to him. After the first assassination attempt, Democrats and their left-wing supporters took roughly a week off from calling Trump a “threat to democracy,” a modern day “Hitler,” “someone who must be stopped,” and similar assassination rhetoric. Thereafter, their rhetoric ramped up back to the pre-assassination level. Thus, it is not surprising that a left-wing nutjob decided it was his task to be a hero and stop such a huge threat to America. Ironically, Dana Bash spent her time yesterday morning blaming J.D. Vance for the bomb threats being made in Springfield, Ohio, despite Vance doing nothing more than pointing out that people had reported to him that Haitians were engaged in bad acts and making life harder for native Ohioans. Vance took Bash to task for her reckless slur. Will Bash, who previously gave a softball interview to Kamala Harris, ask Harris, Biden, or any other prominent Democrat if they regret their rhetoric about Trump that has now led to two assassination attempts in two months? Of course not. I don’t know where you stand, but here is where I come down:
If you vote for Harris or any Democrat in 2024, you are voting for people who and a party that has twice inflamed Americans against Trump so much that two of those Americans tried to kill him. You are casting this vote knowing those same Democrats and that same party also is responsible for the assault on congressional Republicans in 2017 that almost killed Steve Scalise. No matter how much you protest, your vote means that you approve of what they’ve done and you are comfortable with Trump being killed, people rioting and engaging in violence after the election if Trump wins, or any reaction by the Right should Trump be killed.
At some point, you simply don’t get off by doing as Harris did by deploying a cliche that “violence is never the answer” after spending years telling Americans that Trump is a dictator who is a severe threat to America and must be stopped. You are an accomplice. Period.
P.S. As of 8:20pm EST, President Joe Biden had yet to issue any public comment about the second assassination attempt on Trump more than six hours after it occurred.
__________
As expected, Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for president shortly after the debate ended last Tuesday night. Had Joe Biden remained in the race, Swift would have endorsed him like she did in 2020. I previously warned parents of Swifties that Swift wasn’t just an entertainer with catchy songs; rather, she is a highly partisan lefty who seeks to use her influence over young girls and women to push a progressive agenda. Within 24-hours of her endorsement, over 300,000 people clicked on the link Swift gave to register to vote. Along with her obsession with writing bitter songs about her numerous failed relationships, Swift’s politics are anathema to the values and views of Main Street America.
Swift is also a ragging hypocrite on climate change, as she spends more time flying all over the world on her private jet spewing loads of carbon dioxide and other “nasty” jet emissions than most people all the while lamenting the need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. She even threatened to sue a college student who used publicly available data to track her jets to show just how much Swift flies around. As reported, “Her private jet usage amounted to an estimated 8,300 tons of carbon emissions in 2022 – that’s about 1,800 times the average human’s annual emissions, or 576 times that of the average American and about 1,000 times that of the average European.” Classic lefty “do as I say, not as I do” mentality.
Then there is Swift’s questionable relationship with Conor Kennedy. Though most media blur the timeline of when Swift and Kennedy met in order to report he was 18-years-old when they met, the met and began their relationship when he was 17-years-old at a July 4 Kennedy Family party. At the time, Swift was 22-years-old. Kennedy turned 18-years-old a few weeks into their relationship, but he was still just a rising junior in high school. Swift’s obsession with Kennedy went so far as to buy a house near his house and fly him out to Nashville on her jet. It seems to me this age difference should have raised alarm bells at the time. After all, scores of female teachers go to jail every year for engaging in relationships with students the same age as Kennedy. Would you be okay with a 22-year-old woman dating your junior high schooler and moving in nearby? How about a 22-year-old man dating your junior in high school? It was only tolerated because of Swift’s fame and gender. She should have been shamed.
I bring up Swift because of the recent conflict between her and Brittany Mahomes, Kansas City Quarterback Patrick Mahomes’s wife. A couple of weeks ago, Mahomes expressed support for Trump. When Swift started dating Kansas City Chiefs receiver Travis Kelce, she often attended games sitting with Mahomes. In the first and second home games of the 2024 season, however, Swift and Mahomes sat in separate corporate boxes. The belief was that Swift didn’t approve of Mahomes showing support for Trump, so shunned her at the games to avoid being lumped in with her. Last Tuesday’s endorsement of Harris appears to confirm that belief.
In Swift and Mahomes, we get a great microcosm of the divide in America. In honor of J.D. Vance, we can call this the cat lady versus mom divide, as Swift is in fact a childless cat lady and Mahomes is the mother of two kids with another on the way. It goes deeper. The 34-year-old Swift perfectly encapsulates the elite Left’s view of America. Upon becoming famous and a billionaire, she ditched her small town West Reading, Pennsylvania, roots and values and now spends her time behind gated walls on the East and West Coasts, on private jets, in uber luxury hotels and vacation spots, and with other progressive celebrities. She is far, far removed from Main Street America and the legion of young girls whose parents pay for their daughters to stream her music, attend her concerts, and buy her merchandise. Swift has had more boyfriends than it is possible to keep track of, with many featured in her bitter breakup songs. The only two aspects of Swift that fails to align with how she votes is that she lacks a college degree and she dates a man who comes across more like a caveman MAGA brute with little intellectual heft than a sophisticated metrosexual progressive with deep thoughts (though he is a future Hall of Famer).
As for Mahomes, she grew up in Whitehouse, Texas, where she was a soccer star and dated fellow high school athletic star, Patrick. Whitehouse is a very small community in East Texas. She played soccer in college and professionally. After college, Patrick became the starting quarterback for the Chiefs. Once her soccer career ended, Mahomes moved to Kansas City where the high school sweethearts had their first kid and married. She and Patrick had their second kid in 2023, with a third on the way. By all accounts, the Mahomes are very decent people who maintain their East Texas values despite their fame and fortunes. The Mahomes are still in their twenties and live in Kansas and Texas. In every way, they embody Right-leaning voters. When asked about Brittany’s Trump tweet, Patrick wisely opted to remain quiet about how he votes adhering to Michael Jordan’s famous quip that “Republicans buy shoe, too” (for him: “Democrats buy Chiefs jerseys, too.”).
Swift shunning Mahomes at the last Chiefs game is frankly par for the course of where America is right now. It is always interesting how loudmouths from the Left in the entertainment and sports industries never suffer any negative consequences (financially or otherwise) for promoting left-wing causes and candidates. John Legend can pop off about politics as much as he wants, but God forbid Jason Aldean or his wife, Brittany, dare go political. George Clooney can pen (read: have ghost written for him) a letter pushing Joe Biden out of the presidential race, but hell hath no fury if Tom Selleck or Kelsey Grammar back Republicans. I must be the only person on the Right who actually boycotts left-wing entertainers, cities that selectively go after conservatives like Washington, D.C., and New York City, and consumer brands like Target and Bud Light that go too woke. No wonder they keep bloviating about all things politics.
I suppose the most fascinating thing about the Swift shunning is that we’ve been told for decades that the Left is tolerant and supportive of diversity, as the Right is intolerant and opposed to diversity; yet, it is the Left time-and-again that pushes the censorship of the Right, the canceling of comedians who offend their sensibilities, and the labeling of Trump voters as racist, deplorable, and stupid. The Left’s tolerance only applies to every group and type of belief system no matter how freakish except conservatism and it defines diversity as people of every race, color, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, and disability so long as those people aren’t intellectually diverse politically. Swift, like so many entertainers on the Left, became a billionaire on the backs of Main Street Americans she looks down on, as she supports politicians who make their lives harder. Anti-hero, indeed.
P.S. See my tweet below of J.D. Vance’s tweet on what is happening in Springfield, Ohio. I’m thrilled Vance is pushing to hold the Biden-Harris Administration accountable for the problems in Springfield. Just wish he’d also hold Mike DeWine and Jon Husted accountable for their inaction over the last three years. He’d earn true credibility if he called out both sides who failed their Ohio constituents.
