Post-Mortem: What Kamala Harris’s Campaign Revealed About the Left
Texas is off the table. The race card no longer works. And the Obamas, like the Bushes, are irrelevant.
Bluntly? Kamala Harris’s campaign, on the heels of Joe Biden’s 2020 “return to normalcy/not Donald Trump” campaign, reveals that the Left is terrified to actually run on their actual agenda. Instead, they run on vapid rhetoric and “blank slate” platforms consisting of the thinnest of gruel. The Left adopts this approach because they know that neither a majority nor a plurality of Americans agree with their radical progressivism. Harris’s 2019 campaign included the progressive Left’s wish list of policies: Green New Deal, Medicare for All, open borders, defund the police, amnesty for illegals, higher taxes, more regulations, abortion without restrictions, and every transradical agenda item. Despite Biden not running on these items in 2020, the Biden-Harris Administration tried to adopt many of them over the last four years, which is why Biden’s approval numbers were so dismal and Trump was thumping him before he exited stage left. Harris did her best to avoid talking about her own record, but, in the end, Trump thumped her, too, by winning every state a Republican likely can win. For the record, I’ve long believed Virginia and New Hampshire are solidly blue for presidential elections, so Trump claiming every winnable state qualifies as a modern day landslide.
Heck, you can even make the case that Barack Obama’s 2008 “hope and change” campaign fits this mold. After all, there is a reason why after four years of him pushing progressive policies as president he went from a 365 Electoral Vote-7.2% margin win in 2008 to a 332 EV-3.9% margin win in 2012, as both John McCain and Mitt Romney were moderates unloved by the Republican base. Obama’s hard left policies laid the ground work for Trump’s 2016 win. John Kerry in 2004 and Al Gore in 2000 ran aggressive left-wing campaigns and both lost. Only Bill “New Democrat” Clinton won twice based on a fairly moderate agenda, especially compared to the Left’s agenda today. If Democrats cannot wrest control of their party from the progressive Left, it stands little chance of winning the White House anytime soon.
Inheriting this mess for 2028 are California Governor Gavin Newsom—though he is wounded given how hard right many parts of his state moved in 2024—Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer—though her anti-Catholic conduct won’t win her the all important Catholic vote. I think Pete Buttigieg is mortally wounded due to his ties to the Biden-Harris Administration and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker's atrocious record renders him dead on arrival no matter how much money he can throw at the race. Maryland Governor Wes Moore might get traction in 2028 given the Left’s obsession with race, especially after Trump secured the largest percentage of the black vote since 1960.
For the Left, here are a few other important takeaways from 2024.
First, Texas is off the table. The Left loves to claim it will win Texas, but that belief is solely based on its erroneous and racist belief that the Right’s hostility to open borders and illegal immigration will push Hispanic Americans to vote for them. I say racist because the Left literally believes Hispanic Americans want illegal immigrants simply because they are mostly Hispanic. With Trump’s massive gains in supermajority Hispanic counties along the border in Texas, Texas is now like Florida—an exercise in futility for the Left.
Next, the race card no longer works. Thank God. Trump’s support from Hispanics and blacks in 2024 drove a stake through the heart of the race card industry. It doesn’t mean the Left won’t still throw it out constantly, but they know it will only work with minorities who already will blindly vote Left. Joy Reid and Al Sharpton should be shown the door, with both representing an “is there nothing I can’t say or do that won’t get me fired” untouchable position.
Finally, the 2024 election proved that the Obamas, like the Bushes, are irrelevant. Both Obamas allowed too much of their hidden racialist views to seep out over the last few months. From Michelle’s “disappointment” in America every time it doesn’t side with her to Barack’s lecture to the bros on how they are required to vote, the Obamas wore out their welcome with normal Americans. They just need to sell their D.C. mansion, buy a place in Los Angeles where they can scam the entertainment industry with their asinine media projects, and occasionally gauge the coast line at their multi-million dollar Hawaiian and Martha’s Vineyard coastal mansions. I’ve always believe that the Obama’s purchase of coastal property reveled what they really believed about climate change and the rising oceans catastrophizing (hint: they don’t).
P.S. On the Ohio front, the most interesting news is that Vivek Ramaswamy announced the relocation of his company, Strive, on November 1 from Columbus to Dallas. Perhaps he isn’t interested in running for Ohio governor, as moving your company out of the state isn’t a sign you have faith in Ohio’s future. I personally understand why he made the move for financial and market-based reasons, but it wasn’t a politically sound one. Maybe he figures between his money and a likely endorsement from Trump, he’d still win a Republican primary decisively. He’s not wrong given how weak Jon Husted will be given the atrocious DeWine-Husted Administration record. The funniest thing about the move is that just days after announcing the move, Ramaswamy spoke at post-election event sponsored by JobsOhio, which clearly failed to convince Ramaswamy to keep Strive in Ohio. The sooner the Ohio General Assembly kills JobsOhio and redirects its funds to build a world-class airport in the Greater Columbus area, the better.
