On Two Standards of Justice Driven by Political Affiliations Plus My “Just Shut-Up and Play” Olympic Complaint
So, again, please don’t tell me there aren’t two standards of justice depending on the political affiliation of the prosecutors, judges, juries, and alleged perpetrators. The evidence is overwhelming.
Three year ago in an article for The Federalist on July 29, 2021, “Report Reveals Shocking Double Standards for Bringing U.S. Rioters to Justice,” I wrote:
Lady Justice is supposed to be blind, which is why statues show her blindfolded. Her blindfold clearly has been removed in the United States. The approach to and outcomes for the 2020 rioters as compared to the January 6 rioters vividly highlights America’s justice system now has two standards of justice based on the party affiliation of the prosecutors and the alleged perpetrators. Left-wing rioters wisely did their acts in cities controlled by Democrats and with Democrat district attorneys, who went soft on them despite their disproportionate violence. In contrast, those who rioted on January 6 had the great misfortune of being in a jurisdiction controlled by anti- Trump Democrats and zealously left-wing U.S. attorneys looking to impress their fellow leftists.
...
A core foundation of our country rests on the people believing there is equality under the law. The dissimilar treatment of 2020 rioters and January 6 rioters is fracturing that foundation more with each passing day. As Abraham Lincoln wisely noted, a divided house cannot stand.
Later in my Substack column on December 5, 2023, “Don’t Tell Me There Aren’t Two Standards of Justice Driven By Politics”, I stated:
You want to tell me there aren’t two standards of justice in America driven by politics and where the alleged criminal acts are committed? I’ve seen far too many instances in which Antifa or BLM rioters are handed light sentences or not prosecuted at all because their politics are favored in the jurisdictions where they committed their crimes, as any American who was near the Capitol on 1/6 is hunted down, prosecuted, and thrown in jail. The vast majority of 1/6ers who have been arrested did not engage in any violence or do any damage to the Capitol. They just were in the wrong place run by rabid leftists with the wrong political views. Hopefully, all of the non-violent 1/6ers who didn’t damage any property will receive full pardons when a Republican next wins the presidency.
Justice really shouldn’t depend on the politics of the perps, their prosecutors, or their judges. That isn't blind justice. That is fascism.
In just the last four weeks, several more examples of politically driven prosecutions or declinations (declining to prosecute) show the two standards of justice I’ve been writing abut since 2020 remain the driving force for the Left. Specifically, left-wing New York lawyer Urooj Rahman made the news AGAIN. As you may recall, Rahman graced the headlines back in 2020 when she and an Ivy League educated lawyer friend were caught throwing a Molotov cocktail (i.e., a firebomb) into a New York Police Department patrol car. Rahman received a fairly light sentence of just fifteen months in prison on thirty year felony charges along with two years of supervised release. I couldn’t verify how much time Rahman actually served, but the length of her sentence permitted her to be released early, so I doubt she served more than a handful of months for her firebombing a cop car.
As Assistant U.S. Attorney Ian Richardson noted:
These two defendants weren’t just throwing firebombs at the police themselves, they were inciting other violence by offering fire bombs to other people in the street. They had multiple fire bombs that they were offering and they had components to create others and to ignite them…I think the thing that bears repeating here is that these aren’t people with nothing to lose. They come from privileged backgrounds…and they were willing to throw that all away.
Why didn’t Rahman received a long prison sentence like so many nonviolent (and even violent) 1/6ers? Simple: a Joe Biden U.S. Attorney was sworn in midway through the case and altered the entire case to ensure Rahman received a light sentence. Rahman showed her thanks by showing up to a July 4, 2024, antisemitic protest to burn American flags and chant “Death to America!” So much for her claim that she was “no long the person that I was.”
A couple of weeks ago, antisemitic protestors attacked and defaced federal statutes, burned American flags, and assaulted law enforcement officers. Did the Federal Bureau of Investigation use its geocaching capabilities as it did with 1/6ers to identify smartphones at the violent protest and begin hunting those violent men and women down? Of course not. Instead, as Julio Rosas noted on Twitter based on information from a law enforcement source: “The charges against four people, including a 15-year-old, who were arrested for assaulting police officers yesterday’s riot were dropped.”
Kyle Seraphin recently posted a lengthy thread on Twitter showing all of the instances where left-wing rioters in Washington, D.C., who were arrested by law enforcement had their charges quietly dropped by Democrat prosecutors. So, again, please don’t tell me there aren’t two standards of justice depending on the political affiliation of the prosecutors, judges, juries, and alleged perpetrators. The evidence is overwhelming that there is.
P.S. I don’t know about you, but I subscribe to the belief that athletes, actors, and corporate CEOs should stick to what they are paid to do and stay out of politics. I don’t give a rat’s behind what LeBron James, George Clooney, or Mark Cuban think of Donald Trump, conservatives, or America’s immigration policy. They should shut-up and play, act, or run their businesses. Along those lines, it was maddening to see all-world gymnast Simon Biles use and devalue her Olympic success to take a shot at Trump followed by her applauding the fact that the gold, silver, and bronze winners were all black (versus all Americans). Such racialists thinking just doesn’t belong in sports. As Michael Jordan famously said, “Republicans buy basketball shoes, too.”
