If There Is Nothing Exculpatory re 1/6 to Hide, Why Did Hyper-Partisan J6 Committee Hide or Destroy Evidence They Collected?

We must hope that Americans see through the Left’s lies over the coming year lest America take another step towards the inevitable darkness that eventually follows those lies.

For those of us who have been imperfect kids or have imperfect kids (versus the perfect ones you hear about endlessly on Fakebook™️:-), we all know what happened when something wrong occurred. The evidence of wrongdoing went “missing.” I remember when my friend, Brian, and I were playing nerf soccer in my parents’ living room and an errant kick hit the dining room chandelier, shattering several of the glass covers. We carefully removed the broken pieces and used the surviving pieces in spots my parents could see from the kitchen, thereby hoping to delay discovery long enough so I could plead ignorance, which I did (sorry, mom!!!). Members of Congress, however, aren’t kids and their work is wholly funded by our tax dollars, so legally and ethically they aren’t supposed to hide or destroy any records in any format. The Freedom of Information Act and other laws and legal decisions explicitly require those in government, including the legislative branch and its employees, to preserve any and all records, which is why the news this week about the widespread hiding or destruction of J6 Committee records is very troubling.

Specifically, in a letter to J6 Committee Democrat Chairman Bennie Thompson from Republican Barry Loudermilk, Loudermilk noted:

I received your letter dated July 7, 2023, in which you acknowledged that as Chairman of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol (“Select Committee”), you failed to preserve and archive original copies of some witness testimony transcripts. Additionally, in that letter, you admitted that you did not preserve the video recordings of witness interviews. The failure to preserve and archive documents relevant to official business of the House of Representatives is not only deeply concerning, but also in violation of House Rules.

…

This is especially concerning given you wrote in a previous letter to me that you did not preserve any video recordings of depositions or transcribed interviews. The Select Committee regularly used short clips from these videos during its prime-time hearings to further your predetermined narrative. By failing to preserve these videos, you deny the American public the right to review the footage and make their own conclusions about witnesses’ truthfulness. 

The letter also noted the coordination that occurred with and the sharing of now-destroyed evidence from Thompson to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis for use in her case against Donald Trump and his supporters. 

I personally know Thompson from my days at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security when I testified in front of his committee and had to meet with him in his office to discuss homeland security policies. I can unequivocally state that he and his staff are among the most partisan hacks you can find in Washington, D.C., which is saying a lot if you’ve ever spent time among congressional Members and staffers. Thompson has served in Congress since 1993, so is more than familiar with the rules on the preservation of records. Thus, his conduct in hiding and/or destroying records was intentional.

Maybe you don’t think it matters, but, when the J6 Committee used just a small fraction of the most damaging evidence they collected after conducting over 1,200 secret video depositions and testimonies to defame 1/6ers, to grossly exaggerate what happened on January 6, and to improperly influence judges and potential jury members empaneled for 1/6 trials, given how many 1/6ers were bankrupted, languish in jail, and had their lives ruined, I think it matters enormously. Under the law, 1/6ers, Trump, and his supporters are entitled to see if exculpatory material exists among the vast amount of evidence collected by the J6 Committee which never saw the light of day. It smacks far too closely with what the Communist Chinese Government did with the Wuhan virus when it only provided a tiny bit of self-serving evidence that exculpated them, but withheld the far more damning evidence we know existed at some point that showed the virus came from the Wuhan Institute of Virology after being manufactured in that lab. 

Yes, the Democrat J6 Committee’s conduct matches perfectly the conduct of the Communist Chinese Government.

That conduct is why I find the Left’s scaremongering about what “dictator for life” Trump will do should he win the 2024 presidential election just laughable. For the last seven years and counting, THEY are the ones who have subverted our Republic. THEY are the ones who have used the power of government to take out their political enemies. THEY are the ones who have committed frauds and lied repeatedly about so many things. THEY are the ones who got their media sycophants to also lie and defraud the public. THEY are the ones who have contested every presidential election since 1988 in which a Republican won. THEY are the ones who cheated and changed election rules improperly. THEY are the ones whose non-profit allies improperly spent (and will spend again) hundreds of millions of dollars, if not billions, in a partisan fashion to drive out only voters they deemed favorable to their candidates. THEY are the ones who relentlessly use lawfare with partisan judges to subvert our elections. THEY are the ones pushing censorship and extreme limits on the First and Second Amendments. THEY are the ones condoning antisemitism among their constituents.

After all that, they, along with TDS sufferers Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, have the audacity to look the American people in the eyes with straight faces and gaslight us by claiming that the Right is the real danger to our country’s future. George Orwell didn’t know how right he was when he wrote "Nineteen Eighty-Four" and "Animal Farm" about totalitarianism and its adherents on the political Left. We must hope that a plurality or majority of Americans see through the Left’s lies over the coming year lest America take another step towards the inevitable darkness that eventually follows those lies.

P.S. Back in December 2021 in “Should America Expend Blood and Treasure to Defend Ukraine from Russia and Taiwan from China?," I raised the very vital question of who would want their kids to die fighting Russians (or Chinese). I raised that question because, as I wrote in March 2022 in “For Which Country Would You Send your Kid to Fight and Die?," I think fighting “real time” wars in the era of 24-hours news and social media makes sustaining any casualties unsustainable among the American public unless the cause is deemed by them to be truly existential. I submitted that neither Russia’s invasion of Ukraine nor a Chinese invasion of Taiwan represented that level of threat. Yesterday, Joe Biden said this:

If Putin attacks a NATO ally, if he keeps going and then he attacks a NATO ally, when we've committed as a NATO member to defend every inch of NATO territory, then we'll have something that we don't seek and that we don't have today: American troops fighting Russian troops.

Given how little our European allies commit to NATO and the actions Germany took vis-a-vis pushing the Nordstream II pipeline to strengthen Russia’s hold on Europe, I’m confident a majority of Americans would not be willing to send their sons or daughters to fight and die for NATO let alone Ukraine or Taiwan. As I wrote in February 2022 in “Did Globalization, Nationalism, and Climate Change Functionally End the Transatlantic Alliance?,” "The future of both the Transatlantic Relationship and NATO depends on America and Europe being more than nice places to vacation and for study abroad programs for their citizens.” Is Europe really more than that for America today? I don’t think it is. Reasonable minds can disagree, but my kids aren’t going to die for Europe, Ukraine, or Taiwan.
