For the Love of God, Someone Tell Donald Trump He Is Doing a Great Job Losing a Race He Should Easily Win
The Trump-Vance versus Harris-Walz race vividly illustrates the core differences between the Right and the Left, yet Trump gives the media soundbytes to hurt him.
Politics isn’t hard. You run based on your record and positions and highlight the contrasts with your opponents. If your opponent has skeletons in her closet, you point those out to the voters, too. In the three weeks since Kamala Harris replaced Joe Biden, Donald Trump and J.D. Vance have spent most of it exactly where they shouldn’t be spending it: on defense over Vance’s snarky comments and Trump’s constant personal hits on Harris and others (Rod Stewert…seriously???). As a result, the polls have shifted to favor Harris, including the betting odds where people put their money with their mouths are. The latter flip is the one right now that worries me. It falls into that “wisdom of crowds” category.
To be clear, a contrast or skeleton is not:
Your opponent's racial background and her opportunism about that racial background;
Your opponent's past history as a single woman;
Your opponent’s husband’s religious and national origin identification;
Your opponent’s low IQ based; and
Your opponent’s opportunistic use of others to advance her career.
A contrast or skeleton is:
Your opponent’s history as a prosecutor of over-prosecuting certain offenders and under-prosecuting other more favored offenders;
Your opponent’s hypocrisy regarding prosecuting drug offenders, as she herself engaged in using drugs;
Your opponent’s 92% turnover rate in her office due to her abrasive management style; and
Your opponent’s actions of stolen valor.
Trump needs to stop talking about Willie Brown, Brian Kemp, the 2020 election, and Harris’s race. Every time he does, the left-wing media will memory hole all of the good things he said and focus on the one personal attack he made so they can help turn more suburban white women against him. And we know with 100% certainty that the biased media (JINOs—journalist in name only) will do everything it can to help Harris defeat Trump, so Trump’s inability to navigage that hostile territory FOR THE THIRD TIME (2016, 2020, and 2024) is mindbottling.
I simply cannot state this more clearly: this election is Trump’s to win or lose and, right now, he is doing a great job losing it. The only voters who like Trump’s personal attacks are already voting for him. He needs to attract the very small group of undecided voters who will decide the election in six-to-ten states. They want to know which candidate will make America an easier, safer, and more prosperous place to live, work, and raise a family. That is a policy fight, not a who can get less muddy in the pigpen scrap.
The Right in 2024 couldn’t have asked for a better contrast election than what it has. It has a candidate whose record on issue-after-issue that voters care about is a fantastic contrast with his opponent. Pick the issue and Trump’s record crushes the Biden-Harris record. With the addition of left-wing Governor Tim “stolen valor” Walz, the contrast is even sharper.
Economy? Check — and, yes, my left-wing friends, voters get that Trump shouldn’t be blamed for the pandemic economic devastation caused by China’s intentional and reckless conduct married with the bad decisonmaking of Democrat governors and squish Republicans like Mike DeWine and Jon Husted.
Immigration? Check. This issue alone provides a contrast as wide as the Pacific Ocean and every assault, rape, fentanyl poisoning, and death of an American by an illegal immigrant allowed into America under the Biden-Harris Administration puts literal blood on the hands of Biden and Harris. Add Walz making Minnesota a sanctuary state along with giving drivers license to tens of thousands of illegal immigrants and I’d submit Trump could talk about nothing but this issue over the next 90 days and win.
Energy? Check. Trump gave America energy independence. Biden-Harris made America dependent again on the Middle East by cracking down on domestic energy explorers, producers, transporters, and refiners. Trump=drill, baby, drill and no Green New Deal!! Harris: wants to ban fracking and force Americans into unpopular electric vehicles under a "make America like California" banner.
Law and order? Check. Trump supports the police and keeping vulnerable communities safe. Harris wants to defund the police thereby making those most at-risk communities less safe. With Walz’s “let Minneapolis burn so we can smell it in our home” inactions in 2020 along with Harris’ plea to fund the defenses of those who carried the flamethrowers in 2020, Trump can’t lose this issue.
Foreign Policy? Check. Like immigration, this issue presents an enormous contrast. Trump gave us the defeat of ISIS followed by nothing but calm waters and clear blue skies. Biden-Harris gave us: Afghanistan withdrawal; Isreal-Hamas War; Iran funding and arming proxies around the Middle East; Russian invasion of Ukraine; North Korea resumption of firing missiles; Venezuela’s aggression towards its neighbors and stealing elections; and China’s sending spy balloons across America and its growing aggression in the South China Sea. Trump=peace, security, and stability. Biden-Harris=war, insecurity, and growing instability. IT IS THAT DARN SIMPLE!!!!!
Inflation? Check. Under Trump, inflation was low and below wage increases. Under Biden-Harris, inflation is up over 20% and well above wage increases. Trump=Americans gained ground. Biden-Harris: Americans lost ground. Voters see this reality at their kitchen tables and at the gas pumps every day.
Transradical Agenda? Check. Harris and Walz want to allow the maiming and drugging of young children contrary to the American Pediatric Association and a growing number of democracies, as well as not protecting girls and young women in bathrooms and forcing them to compete against biological boys and young men on the sports pitch. Trump opposes all of these terrible policies. Trump=protect our kids. Harris=puts our kids in harm’s way.
Abortion? Hell, I’d argue with Walz’s unlimited abortion policy in Minnesota and Trump’s moderate position on abortion, the Right could even scratch out a draw on this issue. That said, given how many great contrasts there are above, leaving this one alone probably is the safest move.
Even on the backgrounds of both tickets there is a fantastic contrast. Trump and Vance are private sector guys who spent most of their careers building businesses and creating opportunities and prosperity for others. Harris and Walz are lifetime government workers and career politicians who have done little other than suck off the teat of government to fund their lifestyles and have no grasp of the private sector and how to help it grow. Thus, if you want a thriving economy and private sector, Trump is your man; if, however, you want bigger government that burdens the private sector inhibiting its growth, than Harris is your woman.
I could go on, but you get the picture. The policy contrast is soooooooooo overwhelmingly good for the Right with undecided voters that Trump’s continued diarrhea of the mouth on non-policy contrasts is just inexplicable. If he cannot get control of that problem, then he will lose the most winnable election since 1988 to one of the least talented politicians in the last fifty years and will have no one to blame except himself.
P.S. For those Trump sychophants, spare me the pushback. When I explored a run for Ohio Governor last year, I constantly checked myself to ensure I was seeing the landscape clearly. That is why after nine months and fifty-six counties under my belt, I was able to dispassionately end my exploratory run. When after nine months I showed up in Wayne County on a Saturday morning to just nine people, I had to face the music that I wasn’t reaching Republican primary voters in a manner that, without a $5 million backer, would result in defeating the Establishment. Thus, this column is nothing more than a sober assessment of the landscape as I see it based on my decades of political and policy skills. Ignore it if you please.
P.P.S. I loved when Vance walked over to Harris’s airplane when they shared the same tarmac. I thought it was an excellent way to contrast his accessability with the media compared to her accessability. On a sidenote, despite our clashes when he worked for John Kasich, I also loved seeing Jai Chabria in the picture. After years of extreme loyalty, Chabria was casually cast aside by Kasich in favor of his Chief of Staff Beth Hansen, so it is only fitting that Chabria actually might end up in the White House, as Kasich, Hansen, and long-time Kasich buddy Doug Preisse never get closer than behind the gates at Layfayette Square. Karma can be harsh.
So much common sense. Maybe it will seep through somehow.
This! 👏🏻
