Exciting Experiment Using Artificial Intelligence—Release of “The Architect Rises” on Amazon

In February 2025, I spent seven days having a policy discussion with X’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Grok 3, which I published in this forum. I was blown away by AI’s ability to find data, analyze it, and describe it in coherent paragraphs within seconds. Grok 3 did in seconds what would have taken me weeks. I realized at that moment that public policy jobs like mine would face stiff competition from AI. Why hire a college graduate as a research fellow if you could use AI to do in seconds or minutes what the college graduate would take weeks or months to do?
The experience got me thinking about a long mothballed project of mine dating back over a decade. You see, I had sketched out an end-to-end fiction thriller focused on a terrorist threat from Iran involving Venezuela. I even wrote a few chapters. I discovered that, unlike non-fiction writing, I wasn’t very good at writing made-up dialogue between characters. My attempts sounded too clunky. As a result, I put the project to the side—though it was later used as a scenario for a war game at the American Enterprise Institute’s World Forum with some of the world’s top leaders, including Vice President Dick Cheney, several members of Congress, and foreign dignitaries.
After my February 2025 exchange with Grok 3, I wondered if I could use AI to write the book based on the plot I had developed. Late last year, I downloaded the plot details to AI, which produced a full-length thriller (414 pages) in under eight minutes. After making mostly small edits, the end result—though different than the plot I designed—turned out to be a good story. My plan is to feed the exact same plot data into AI in three years to see how much better the result is. I suspect it will be substantially better.
