Don’t Tell Me There Aren’t Two Standards of Justice Driven By Politics
Justice really shouldn’t depend on the politics of the perps, their prosecutors, or their judges. That isn't blind justice. That is fascism.
Three Americans all from the Greater Atlanta Area. One, Bruno Cua, was a conservative Donald Trump supporter just past his 18th birthday when he got caught up in the January 6 riot in Washington, D.C. The other two are Natalie Hanna White, a 29-year-old woman, and Chisom Kingston, a 23-year-old man, who were part of the progressive Left's Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement.
I’ve previously written about Cua’s story in my piece “January 6 Defendant Deserves Justice Tempered with Leniency and Reason.” Here is what I wrote about what Cua did on January 6:
He entered the Capitol with throngs of others, he may have had physical contact with a man in a suit (video isn’t clear and the suited man doesn’t recall the exchange), and he had one of those little batons so many people have, which he isn’t accused of actually using against anyone.
In fact, I think virtually all of the video of Bruno shows him recording on his phone—what better way to go viral on social media as so many teens, including my own daughter, try to do than to have amazing footage from January 6?—and not doing anything with the baton. As I learned much later, Joe gave him the baton for protection because of those reports of Antifa and BLM thugs being in D.C.
That’s it. Bruno was arrested and shipped off to Oklahoma essentially for trespassing, bumping a cop, and carrying a small baton.
After years of trying to bankrupt the family and sending Cua to jail in Oklahoma for nearly two months after his initial arrest, Cua pled guilty this past Summer in an effort to get the best deal he could and stop the nightmare his family has endured, as the U.S. Department of Justice used every resource to ruin Cua’s life. A federal judge sentenced Cua to one year and one day in federal prison, followed by thirty-six months of probation.
In stark contrast to Cua, this week in an Atlanta courtroom, White and Kingston agreed to plea guilty to their crimes, which included burning down a Wendy’s restaurant…BURNING DOWN AN ENTIRE BUILDING!!! White and Kingston burned down the Wendy’s two days after a police officer shot Rayshard Brooks. I emphasize the two days because, unlike Cua who got caught up the 1/6 pandemonia, White and Kingston committed their crimes two full days after the event that triggered their crimes—Brooks death. They had two days to sleep on things and cool down. Here is what happened to Brooks:
Brooks had fallen asleep in his car in the drive-thru lane of a Wendy’s restaurant.
Brooks was shot dead by Atlanta Police Department Officer Garrett Rolfe, who was performing a DUI test with another officer after Brooks was found sleeping in his car while in line at Wendy’s on University Avenue. Police said Brooks attempted to evade arrest and the officers attempted to deploy their Tasers multiple times.
Brooks took a Taser away from the officer, police said, and then began to run away and eventually was able to use the Taser against the officer. Rolfe allegedly shot Brooks.
Brooks also punched one of the officers giving him a concussion. In exchange for their pleas, White and Kingston have to pay "a $500 fine and serve 150 hours of community service within the next 6 months.” They don’t have to serve any time in jail for burning down an entire building.
You get all that? A teenager follows a crowd into the Capitol and bumps a plain-clothed police officer and he gets over a year in jail on top of the nearly two-months he already served after being arrested, while two adult arsonists who torched a building literally get a wrist slap--it appears they both spent one night in jail after their respective arrests after posting bail (Cua didn’t get that option).
You want to tell me there aren’t two standards of justice in America driven by politics and where the alleged criminal acts are committed? I’ve seen far too many instances in which Antifa or BLM rioters are handed light sentences or not prosecuted at all because their politics are favored in the jurisdictions where they committed their crimes, as any American who was near the Capitol on 1/6 is hunted down, prosecuted, and thrown in jail. The vast majority of 1/6ers who have been arrested did not engage in any violence or do any damage to the Capitol. They just were in the wrong place run by rabid leftists with the wrong political views. Hopefully, all of the non-violent 1/6ers who didn’t damage any property will receive full pardons when a Republican next wins the presidency.
Justice really shouldn’t depend on the politics of the perps, their prosecutors, or their judges. That isn't blind justice. That is fascism.
P.S. In follow up to my piece on the possible breakup of America into several countries, a survey found younger Americans believe the 2024 election will spark a civil war so are buying guns and engaging in doomsday prepping. Given the influence the Left has on these Gen Z Americans, you have to wonder what messages they are receiving that is causing them to worry so much. Perhaps they just remember the left-wing riots in 2016 and 2020, so expect more left-wing riots should Republicans retake the White House next year.
