Do You Want the World’s Best and Brightest Coming to America, or Do You Want Criminals, Terrorists, And, Yes, Cat-Eaters As Neighbors?

If you choose the latter, then put your money where your vote is and move closer to where they live…just keep your pets and family members inside all of the time.

Rarely in life are we presented with such a stark contrast on the way forward as we are right now on immigration. The contrast arises not just on the issue of legality, but also on the issue of impacts. The Left wants America to serve as the landing spot for anyone who wants to come here whether via legal immigration options or illegally by coming across the border, overstaying a visa, or pretending to be refugee. As the Left sees it, the robberies, assaults, rapes, and murders of Americans represent nothing more than collateral damage. The Left fervently believes the rights of foreigners to come to America is greater than the rights of Americans to be safe and secure in their country. They don’t, of course, admit these realities, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to connect the massive influx of unvetted illegal immigrants with the criminal effects caused by those illegal immigrants. You are either stupid or feigning ignorance not to acknowledge that letting millions and millions of unvetted people into your country won’t result in an increase in injury and death of those living here. It is like adding more water to a bathtub that is already full pretending not to know that more water will lead to an overflow that will damage the house. 

In contrast, the Right wants America to allow the world’s best and brightest to come here to compete for us rather than against us while stopping as much illegal immigration as possible with a secure border and aggressive interior enforcement. If America needs more agricultural workers and roofers, then let’s debate how to create legal avenues for those workers to come after a proper vetting, work, and return home once the season is complete. We did that up until the 1960s when Big Labor killed the braceros program because it found it too hard to unionize seasonal workers. That is why Big Labor is fine with illegal immigrants getting permanent work permits from the Biden-Harris Administration because it can then easily unionize those workers and start collecting dues from them (and indoctrinate them to vote Democrat).

Ohio is currently serving as the national example of what happens when the Left gets its way. Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther is pushing for more immigrants so he can feed those workers to Big Labor to take the jobs that would go to Americans if wages weren’t suppressed due to cheap illegal immigrant labor. As a longtime proponent of sanctuary city policies that protect illegal immigrants, Ginther is wholly unbothered by the criminal impacts that come with an influx of unvetted illegal immigrants. Ginther, along with Columbus Chamber of Commerce CEO Don DePerro, want more illegal immigrants to replace aging Ohioans. It is lost on both Ginther and DePerro that the reason Ohio isn't experiencing an influx of younger Americans is because they oppose the policies that would make Ohio more attractive to younger workers. Ginther and DePerro oppose eliminating the state income tax, repealing Medicaid expansion, enacting right-to-work, and other economic policies that would spur job growth. As I noted previously, Ohio has lost over 700,000 citizens ages 10 to 54 over the last decade as those workers and their families sought more prosperous pastures.

Neither Ginther nor DePerro have much to say when one of their illegal immigrants, Manuel-Francisco Julio Alberto, ran a red light and killed an American like what occurred in Dayton on September 4 with 68-year-old April Cartwright. Yes, we all know Americans run red lights and kill other Americans, which is tragic. That is simply not the same thing as when an illegal immigrant does it because, but for the federal government’s failure to keep that illegal immigrant out of America, the dead American he killed would still be alive. Cartwright’s death was 100% preventable simply by securing the border, as Julio Alberto wouldn’t have made it to Dayton where he ran that red light had he been stopped at the border. The Biden-Harris Administration’s reckless immigration policies caused Cartwright’s death, so Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Alejandro Mayorkas have her blood on their hands.

Just a stones throw away in Springfield, Haitians who the Biden-Harris Administration flew into Ohio are causing havoc by committing crimes, including stealing people’s pet cats and grabbing ducks at local parks and eating those animals. Harris previously bragged about allowing Haitians into America: "Then more recently we extended temporary protective status to over 100,000 Haitian migrants for that very reason that they need support, they need protection.” Excuse my French, but Haiti is a shithole, has been a shithole for a very long time, and will remain a shithole. America shouldn’t import that shithole so the Left’s leaders can feel good about themselves hidden behind their walls in their wealthy communities far removed from the shithole. J.D. Vance may have offended cat ladies, but at least he didn’t import people who eat their cats. Arguably, the latter is far worse than the former.

All of this reminds me of when I took a group of Dutch journalists over to a restaurant near Morse Road in Columbus for a meeting with Somali-Americans back in October 2008. The area is where I went to high school and had long been the home of Italian-Americans. With the massive influx of Somalis under Bill Clinton in the 1990s, the area had changed dramatically. During the meeting, two fairly shocking items were revealed. First, the Somali-Americans admitted that they still arrange marriages for their children at young ages. Secondly, one female presenter told a story that she thought illustrated the importance of accepting “cultural norms” of others. She related how a black co-worker came to lunch with her to the restaurant and became offended because the presenter wanted them to enter through the back door rather than the front door because “that is where we women enter and eat because the men enter and eat in the front part of the restaurant.” The black co-worker noted that her people didn’t endure 100 years of Jim Crow laws and fight the Civil Rights Movement so they would still be told where to eat forty years later. The Dutch journalists were dumbstruck by the story, as was I. I had no idea such things happened in America in 2008 and likely still do in area dominated by immigrants.

The Left’s ultimate hope is that the Haitians and other illegal immigrants they have flooded America with over the last four years will vote for Democrats once they inevitably figure out how to vote illegally or legally. The 65,000 Somali-Americans in Columbus certainly have rewarded the Left with their votes, which is partially why Columbus and Franklin County have become so blue. The same goes for Minneapolis-St. Paul where Tim Walz and Ilhan Omar reign, as that is the top destination for Somalis with Columbus coming in second. As they say, if you can’t beat them fairly and squarely on policy, then import new people who you shower with government benefits and beat them once those imported people figure out how to vote. 

So, which America do you want—the one envisioned by the Left or the one envisioned by the Right? If you choose the former, then put your money where your vote is and move closer to where they live…just keep your pets and family members inside all of the time.
