Do You Believe in the 10th Amendment Principle of Competitive Federalism?
I fervently do. Getting political power as close to the people as possible is a fundamental value of America, yet Washington keeps trying to emasculate the states.
Today’s Headline: “Biden admin releases new Title IX rules that bars states from banning transgender students competing in sports”
When our Founding Fathers wrote and passed the Constitution, I’m quite certain they didn’t think a power of the federal government would be to prohibit parents, school boards, counties, cities, and states from putting in place laws to protect their daughters from unfair and, at times, dangerous competition from biological boys/men who believe they are girls/women. As Ohio Governor, I would take aggressive action to fight Joe Biden and his left-wing cadre of woke federal bureaucrats from nationalizing youth and young adult sports. I believe we have a solid 5-3 U.S. Supreme Court majority who believe the 10th Amendment actually means something and are looking to reinvigorate the principle of competitive federalism—who knows where institutionalist John Roberts would come down on this issue, as he sweats being fetted by the Beltway denizens.
Unfortunately for Ohio girls/women, Mike DeWine and Jon Husted have opposed legislation in Ohio for fear of losing NCAA basketball tournament games. We need leaders who know that blackmail money isn’t as important to our future as ensuring fairness and safety in our children’s lives.
I did a spin on Irish National Radio this week covering Donald Trump’s indictment. You can listen to the interview at this link.
I also did my weekly interview on the Bruce Hooley Show where we talked about the Trump indictment and the dereliction of duty of Ohio’s print, radio, and TV media when it comes to investigating the utter failure of JobsOhio and the Kasich-DeWine-Husted policies on jobs and the economy. How can any serious person believe those entities are successful when Ohio is one of just ten states yet to fully recover the jobs lost from the pandemic?
If, after twelve years and over a billion dollars trying to pick winners and losers in corporate America, JobsOhio has not only NOT pushed Ohio’s jobs economy to the front but kept Ohio in the bottom ten states, DeWine and Husted should be calling for the end of JobsOhio, as I do in my agenda. Yet, they cling to the failed status quo policies that keep Ohio, its businesses, and its citizens languishing at the bottom, as our best and brightest young minds head for more opportunistic pastures south and west.
Finally, I spent time up in Bryan, Ohio, talking to the Williams County GOP about my agenda. Bryan is the home of Spangler Candy, maker of Dum Dums, and Ohio Arts, maker of Etch-a-Sketch. The gathering went well with lots of important questions about my local government reform ideas and getting Ohio’s Republican supermajority legislature to be bold. Special thanks to Patti Rockey for inviting me to speak and Bryan Mayor Carrie Schlade and other key office holders in Williams County for attending. Here are a few pictures from the event.
Have a blessed Easter weekend!
