The U.S. Spends Over $500 Billion/Year So Immigrants Can Live Well While Main St. Americans Struggle

Millions of Americans don’t have enough to eat, places to live, cars to drive, healthcare, childcare, and other basic items, yet we are giving non-economic contributing immigrants billions.

According to Pew, there are roughly 51.9 million immigrants living in America. If half of those immigrants are receiving some kind of welfare benefit—food (SNAP), housing, childcare, healthcare, disability, or cash assistance (TANF)—or are engaged in government-funded programs that are being abused such as serving as home healthcare aids, then that means twenty-six million immigrants are siphoning off taxpayer funds that wouldn’t be spent if those immigrants weren’t here or weren’t dependent on government. Estimates indicate that TANF, SNAP, and SSI payments alone can be north of $20,000 per year. If that is our baseline, then it is likely the twenty-six million non-economic contributing immigrants receiving government benefits are swallowing roughly $520,000,000,00 per year, or, for those who can’t count zeros, $520 BILLION per year. Over a four-year presidential term, that would total $2.08 trillion. You think my estimates are too high? Great, cut the number of immigrants getting assistance in half (13 million) and cut the annual amount in half ($10,000). We are still spending $130 billion per year on immigrants, or over $500 billion every four years.
