Ohio Desperately Needs to Enact Four Core Political Reforms
Ohio needs to burn its fields so a new crop of public servants can find nutrient rich space to revitalize our lagging state.
Among the list of policy reforms I proposed in my 2023 exploratory run for Ohio governor, there were four political reforms that I believe Ohio desperately needs to enact in order to escape the terminal velocity of decline it has been in for over two decades. Because policymakers would never pass these political reforms, if they are to be enacted, it must be done by we the people of Ohio. To that end, I want to briefly detail each reform for you then solicit your input on whether you think each political reform would be worth pursuing as a ballot initiative like we successfully did the Ohio Healthcare Freedom Amendment in 2011.
Of note, not one of the four political reforms is partisan; rather, all four likely appeal with equal vigor to Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. If enough funding is raised to pay for the collection of ballot signatures, I believe all four political reforms would pass with 60% or more support. The only Ohioans who would oppose the reforms are elected officials, special interest groups, and lobbyists. With these reforms, Ohioans would inject fresh blood into the system and ensure that those who stand for election are doing it for the right reasons. No longer will statewide and legislative seats be filled by lackluster, talentless political hacks who can’t make more money in the private sector than they do in government, so embed themselves in government at all cost.
Here are the four core political reforms with polls to note your preferences, which would all be constitutional amendments so the biased Ohio Supreme Court couldn’t limit their application:
