Grabbing the Third Rail With Both Hands: Maybe Our K-12 Failures Are Due to Lower IQ Teachers

In the current system, teachers are winning big. That winning, however, comes at the expense of our students and taxpayers. Does that system make sense to you? It shouldn’t.

*****I’ve been told Dublin City Schools (DCS) is now considering a HUGE levy increase and/or instituting an income tax on Dubliners. I’ve also heard Muirfield residents are quietly and aggressively lobbying DCS board members to knife Bailey Elementary School neighborhoods, so its kids don’t get bussed to Scioto High School. It might be time to get involved before more of your money gets taken by government. There are a few spots left for the April 22 event to discuss the DCS redistricting debacle and potential tax hikes versus cutting bloated administrators and counselors, so RSVP now to mattalanmayer@gmail.com*****

No, I’m not saying all teachers are dumb nor am I talking about Dublin City Schools teachers in particular; rather, I’m making a very critical point about the entire teaching profession based on the data that shows students who become teachers have the lowest IQs among college majors. That means lots of teachers aren’t that smart compared to other college majors. Maybe they don’t need to be, but to dismiss that fact is to bury your head in the sand only to lay 100% of the failure of our K-12 system on students and/or their parents. That seems, well, dumb. As the chart below shows, students in four out of five education majors fall among the bottom eight majors for IQ along with, not surprisingly, counseling, community psychology, and social work majors who also post-COVID overpopulate our K-12 education system. Specifically, here are the four education majors containing students with lower IQs:

  • Physical Education (dead last)

  • Early Childhood Education (4th last)

  • Special Education (5th last)

  • Elementary Education (8th last)

Not far ahead are Secondary Education majors who come in as the 21st lowest IQ major (out of 102 majors). For the record, one of my majors, Philosophy, comes in as the 12th highest, with my other major, Psychology, at 14th lowest. Make of that mix what you will:-)

Let’s dive into the subject. To do that properly, we need to step back and look at the entire way America’s education system deals with employing teachers.
